A Dead Weed

It is no secret that Mothers are biased. Right? But I think my mom is biased times one hundred.

In fact, just today as I was bouncing new ideas off her gracious, listening ears...she proved it.

"But you're my daughter. I will like anything you decide to do."

Um, Mom, thanks for being a cheerleader...but constructive criticism isn't always bad, either. :-P (Wait, why am I complaining about being able to do no wrong...?? Hm. I need to rethink this tactic.)

Anywho.

Mom was the one who ridiculed me for pointing my camera a "old, dead weeds."

But then.

She was also the one who gazed on awe at the result: "Only you would be able to make a dead weed look good."

Ragweed? Beautiful?

It doesn't make sense, does it?

I mean. Allergy suffers unite: ragweed ain't beautiful.

But.

Add the blooming color with a sinking sun on a September day in the mountains. And what have we?

We see a reminder that even the most mundane elements of life are intrinsically embedded with beauty because they are created by a God bigger than the evils and sufferings that the world seems to be full of.

Did you catch that?

Think about it.

God gets the glory for this beautiful flower, even though it makes some people sneeze and itch and be miserable.

Maybe its a shaky example, but I draw comfort from the fact that no matter what evil/pain/suffering that the world holds, God is going to ultimately get the glory and He'll somehow work good despite the evil.

(And did you notice the bee in the picture above?? Hehe. I love it.)

[Edit: the actual botanical classification for these weeds is up for dispute. I am a photographer, not a botanist.]

Christmas Flowers

After the broken camera fiasco of two weeks ago, I was thoroughly excited to open my gifts and find a brand new lens with even wider aperture settings! See the beautiful picture?
